Caretaker kept 6 disabled adults in ‘inhumane conditions’ inside school bus

A woman was arrested in Tennessee while transporting six disabled adults and three goats in a school bus from Texas to Virginia.

Memphis Police said Bernice Jarrett, 61, was keeping five intellectually disabled adults and a sixth suffering dementia inside the yellow bus in “uninhabitable and inhumane conditions.”

The six passengers were “living in a space with no running water and no food.” One of them needed medical treatment after being brutally attacked by another passenger the previous day.

    Jarrett reportedly spent her nights at hotels during the road trip from Texas and left the passengers and goats in the bus and trailer “unattended.”

    All six passengers wore dirty clothes and suffered malnourishment. One of them was hospitalized in critical condition and later died.

    Jarrett was charged with six counts of aggravated neglect of an elderly or vulnerable adult and five counts of neglect of a vulnerable adult.
