Utah dad charged with murder after infant dies at hospital

A Utah father is facing murder charges in connection to the death of his one-month-old son who was brought to a hospital not breathing earlier last week.

Armando Valenzuela, 24, called 911 to report an unresponsive baby on March 14 and was given instructions to perform CPR while paramedics headed to his home.

The baby was transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center where he died three days later.

  • Doctors said the infant suffered multiple fractured bones in various stages of healing, brain bleeding, and retinal hemorrhaging.

    Autopsy results showed the baby also hemorrhaging, rib fractures, and head trauma in various stages of healing.

    Valenzuela claimed the baby screamed and went limp when he left him to get his bottle from the kitchen.

    The baby’s mother told detectives the infant would scream loudly whenever he was left alone with his father and that Valenzuela denied hurting the child.
