The search for three people who went missing after their boat capsized on a Florida river on Friday has been suspended.
The Coast Guard said Saturday evening that crews searched for the missing people for over 17 hours “by air and sea” covering more than 270 square miles.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of those missing,” said Lt. Cmdr. Barton Nanney.
“Suspending search efforts is an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking decision, made only after an exhaustive and thorough search,”
“We are truly grateful to our partner agencies for their relentless efforts and unwavering support.”
The 18-foot vessel flipped over on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, with multiple people on board, around 8 p.m. Friday.
Four people were rescued and four others were unaccounted for. Authorities later confirmed that one of them was found dead.
