A Tampa, Florida woman was hit and killed late Thursday after she stopped to help a dog on a local highway, officials said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the 25-year-old woman spotted a dog along Dale Mabry Highway just before 10:30 p.m. and stopped to help the animal.

She got out of her vehicle and walked toward the dog before both were fatally struck by a Toyota RAV4.
The woman and dog were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said a 69-year-old man was driving the Toyota.
Authorities did not identify the people involved in the incident. Further details surrounding the crash were not immediately disclosed.
