A photo shows one of the mutilated black boxes of Ethiopian Airlines' convicted plane crashing, killing 157 people on board.

The data recorder and the voice recorder of Sunday's flight arrived Thursday in France and will be analyzed by the Investigation Bureau.

Investigators hope that the black boxes will be able to provide crucial information on what caused the collapse of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 six minutes after its takeoff from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The published photo shows a damaged part.

BEA spokesman Sebastien Barthe told the Associated Press that it was unclear whether his data was recoverable.

The technical work on the recorders should start on Friday.
