Tel Aviv has incorporated LED stop lights at pedestrian crossings

Tel Aviv has taken its first steps to help distracted pedestrians by their smartphone by incorporating LED stop lights at pedestrian crossings by installing "zombie traffic lights".

The goal was to minimize accidents between vehicles and pedestrians inattentive pedestrian crossings.

Tomer Dror, head of the traffic management division of Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, said the goal was to reduce accidents caused by "pedestrians who focus too much on the smartphone and less on the traffic that surround them. "

Similar systems have already been used in Australia, Singapore and the Netherlands.

For the moment, the pilot program is limited to a single intersection in the center of Tel Aviv.
