Authorities in Pennsylvania are investigating after a family was found living with their relative decaying body for at least six months.
Green County Police officers responded to the Canton Township to conduct a wellness check on Thursday and made a gruesome discovery.
The decomposing body of 64-year-old Michael Bebout was found in his bed inside the home where at least three people lived.
“That’s where things took a turn, a very interesting turn,” said Chief Will DeForte. “My officer who was dispatched to that particular location found the decedent in an advanced state of decomposition.”
The body appeared to have been left there since the beginning of summer.
Detectives are now investigating whether the decedent’s checks were legally cashed during this time.
The officers also noted the filthy conditions of the home.
“There was wall-to-wall dog feces. The situation looked like a hoarder had lived there, and the odor was extraordinarily unpleasant,” DeForte added.
