An Alabama family was found slain inside a burning home nearly 10 months after the husband filed for divorce.
Police believe Marie Celestine killed herself after fatally shooting her husband Harold Celestine and their 16-year-old daughter Meliyah and setting their home on fire on Jan. 7.
Harold Celestine had filed for divorce months before the tragic double murder-suicide. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department said the man was a Reserve Deputy serving as a volunteer.
“He was not a paid employee of the agency and did not possess sworn law enforcement powers,” a spokesperson with the agency said.
“However, as a citizen volunteer with our agency, we requested that the State law enforcement agency take the lead in investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.”
