Chef critical after killing restaurant employee, wounding another then turning gun on himself

A North Carolina restaurant chef was taken off life support Friday morning after he opened fire inside the business killing an employee, wounding another then turning the gun on himself.

George Colom is listed in critical condition after the incident at the French restaurant Coquette, his family said.

The chef entered the business at around 11 a.m. and fatally shot Jonathan Schaffer, 26, following an argument.

    “We were having our daily meeting before the shift began,” Aguilar said.

    “One of our employees had brought in a cake to celebrate a bartender’s birthday. She was cutting the cake, and moments later, I was shot.”

    Schaffer was a manager with Urban Food Group and had worked as a cook and chef for several restaurants, according to his LinkedIn page.
