Texas man chokes brother, 7, to death after verbal argument

A Texas man was charged with capital murder in the Thursday death of his 7-year-old brother, police said.

Brandon Garza, 24, is accused of choking his younger brother to death after a verbal argument at their Pharr home on the 900 block of W. Caffrey Avenue.

Officers responded to the residence just after 3 a.m. Thursday and arrested Garza who had a blood stain on his shirt and forehead.

  • Garza reportedly told officers he “choked him out” referring to the victim after a verbal altercation between them turned physical.

    The suspect detailed how he punched the boy several times in the face before throwing him to the ground and pinning him down while applying pressure around his neck.

    Garza allegedly kept choking his brother until he went unconscious. Paramedics tried to revive the boy at the scene but he died shortly after arriving at McAllen Medical Hospital.

    A judge ordered Garza to be held on a $2 million bond as the investigation into the incident proceeded.
