A California man is dead after he was fatally shot by his parole officer on Christmas Eve, officials said.
The California Justice Department is investigating the shooting that took place in the early afternoon when the officer visited Jeremy Sanchez’s Fresno home.
Investigators said a “physical altercation” erupted between the two men leading the officer to fire his weapon.
The 13-year veteran parole officer then tried life-saving measures on Sanchez who died at the scene.
Sanchez served time for domestic violence and resisting an officer and had an open misdemeanor vandalism case, court records show.
The Justice Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting along with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
