Dallas news, Texas news.

A Texas mother died in late October when she fell through a manhole while walking on a sidewalk with no warning signs or barriers to prevent the tragic accident.

Teresa Gonzalez, 66, was found dead at a Dallas sewage treatment facility, more than nine miles away from the manhole, three days after the fall.

  • “After falling in, witnesses observed Teresa desperately clawing for her life, slowly losing her grip and then falling approximately 30 feet into the abyss of the sewer,” Gonzalez’s family alleged in a lawsuit.

The family is suing the City of Dallas for more than $100 million for allowing an “uncovered and extremely dangerous sewer manhole” to exist in the 1600 block of Record Crossing Road where Gonzalez fell to her death.

“Her death was one of the most grotesque and inhumane ways of dying. Instead of performing a thorough search and keeping the family informed of any updates, the City of Dallas chose to cover up the incident hoping that this incident would wash away just like Teresa did,” the lawsuit claimed.
