A 15-year-old boy was arrested nearly eight months after another boy was lured to railroad tracks and killed in Tampa.
Jahmir Moore, 15, was charged with first-degree murder, carrying a concealed firearm, tampering with evidence, and minor in possession of a firearm in connection to the slaying of 14-year-old Jevario Buie.
The victim was shot to death near railroad tracks between Boulevard and Rome Avenue on April 17.
Security footage caught Buie walking with two individuals just ten minutes before his death.
Moore was identified as one of the two people. Social media messages and search history further linked him to the crime.
“Juveniles don’t get a pass, and they will be held accountable,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.
What led to the shooting remains unclear but Bercaw said that there was a feud and that Buie was lured to his death.
“To realize I could not protect my grandson has been really difficult to process and walk with. Today is one of those days when we, we are deeply saddened that it was another 15-year-old,” Buie’s grandfather said.
“At the same time, we know that the streets of Tampa are safer today because this hurting soul is going to be held accountable.”
