Southern Airlines plane carrying passengers struck by gunfire in Texas airport

A Southwest Airplanes plane with passengers onboard was hit by a bullet from a nearby shooting, authorities said Friday.

The gunfire erupted near Dallas Love Field Airport shortly before 10 p.m. Friday.

Police said that no injuries were reported, but the plane was taken out of service.

The flight was about to depart for Indianapolis when a bullet struck the right side of the jet just under the deck.

“Southwest will accommodate our Customers on another flight,” a spokeswoman said.

“Law enforcement authorities have been notified, and the plane has been removed from service.”

As police carried out their investigation, the runway was temporarily shut down, but it had since reopened.

The shooting occurred at 9:48 p.m. at 8000 Herb Keller Way. No arrests have been made.
