One person was killed and a dozen others wounded early Sunday in a shooting at Tuskegee University, police said.
The shooting took place on campus as the university wrapped up its 100th Homecoming Week.
A male victim, who was not a university student, died from his injuries.
“The parents of this individual have been notified. Several others including Tuskegee University students were injured and are receiving treatment at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery,” school officials said.
Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley confirmed that at least ten victims were injured including at least two students.
“Some idiots started shooting,” Police Chief Patrick Mardis said.
“You couldn’t get the emergency vehicles in there, there were so many people there.”
The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
