An Indiana man was taken into custody late Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times as she walked into her apartment building.
Keywine Gibson Jr., 22, was charged with attempted murder, battery, and other counts after he ambushed the victim outside a Muncie building as she returned from a grocery store.
A witness called 911 at around 8:30 p.m. to report that a man had attacked a woman and fled leaving her screaming on the ground.
Officers rushed the victim to Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital where she identified the attacker as her ex-boyfriend, Gibson.
The victim said Gibson initially pointed a gun at her before pulling it away, producing a knife, and proceeding to stab her more than two dozen times.
Gibson’s roommate called 911 to say that he confessed to attacking the woman. A blood-covered knife was found in his car.
During questioning, Gibson asked if the victim survived adding that he had a gap in his memory and couldn’t remember the incident.
Gibson and the victim had broken up about a week before the attack, police said.
