An Iowa father has admitted to killing his 5-year-old son telling detectives he had been planning the murder for a week.
Matthew Schleier, 45, was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the Tuesday death of his son.
Paramedics responded to the Marion home early Tuesday over reports of a child who was not breathing.
The victim, identified as “J.S.”, died at a hospital. His mother told paramedics that he was strangled by his father.
Schleier admitted that he had been up for most of the night planning to kill “J.S.” adding that he first thought about it a week earlier.
The man said he considered using knives in the killing before changing his mind. The child has bruising around his neck consistent with strangulation.
Police found knives and other evidence at the home indicating premeditation in the dad’s actions.
