A California woman released prematurely from jail despite a double homicide conviction is now accused of carrying out a third murder.
Five years ago, Shanice Dyer was a 17-year-old member of the East Coast Crips gang when she murdered Alfredo Carrera and his friend Jose Flores.
Neither of the two men was gang-affiliated but happened to stand in Dyer’s gang territory which led to their deaths.
“This was cold-blooded murder. And it wasn’t just one person; two innocent people lost their lives for no reason,” Alfredo’s sister said.
Dyer was tried as a juvenile and convicted of the two murders. She remained in custody for four years before her release.
“It’s still very hard and now we find out that this person has committed another crime, doing this to yet another family,” the grieving sister said.
Dyer is now accused of murdering 21-year-old Joshua Streeter, prompting anger and criticism over District Attorney George Gascon’s policies.
“George Gascon refused to take responsibility for the fact that his policies have led to this murder,” retired LA County Deputy DA Kathy Cady said.
“He hides behind explanations that don’t make sense.”
