Tennessee couple charged with murder in death of 4-month-old baby

A Tennessee couple was arrested on murder charges in connection to the death of their 4-month-old infant earlier this month.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 900 block of Queens Garden Private Drive on September 15 to reports of a baby who had stopped breathing.

The 4-month-old infant was rushed to an area hospital where they were declared dead. The death was deemed a homicide.

  • On September 17 police arrested the infant’s parents, 23-year-old Lucas Carter Jr. and 24-year-old Madison Rehart, after evidence showed their involvement in their infant’s death.

    Evidence also proved both parents failed to seek medical care for the baby.

    Carter and Rehart were initially charged with aggravated assault for failing to protect a child.

    Their charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder and aggravated child/ abuse/ neglect/ endangerment.
