Hurricane Helene leaves 26 dead; path of destruction across Southeast

At least 26 deaths and a devastating path of destruction were left across the Southeast Friday after Hurricane Helene barreled through several states with torrential rainfall and powerful winds.

On Friday, rescue operations were underway in Florida and Georgia with 26 confirmed fatalities and flash flood alerts still active across northeast Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia.

    “Over 1,500 federal personnel have been deployed to the region, including 930 Urban Search and Rescue workers, as well as medical teams and power restoration teams,” a White House official stated.

    “The Administration stands ready to provide additional support as needed and remains in close touch with officials at the state and local level.”
