Authorities in Birmingham have arrested a man after making the grisly discovery of a slain woman in an apartment Friday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Maria Juan, 27. She was reported missing earlier on Friday and was last seen alive Thursday evening with a group of people.
Special Victims Unit investigators took over the probe after South Precinct officers discovered Juan deceased at around 3:30 p.m. Friday inside an apartment at the Hillside residential complex in Glen Iris.
North Precinct officers arrested a man described as Juan’s romantic partner in downtown Birmingham.
The victim’s family provided investigators with information about him. He is currently facing murder charges.
Juan’s cause of death is pending an autopsy performed by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
