Eight firefighters sustained injuries in a roll-over crash after wrapping up a 12-hour shift battling the Airport Fire wildfire in Southern California.
The fire truck crashed while driving north shortly before 7 p.m. on State Route 241 near Portola Parkway in Irvine.
The California Highway Patrol said a car driving in front of the fire truck swerved to avoid a ladder that was on the road causing the truck to swerve, lose control, hit the guard rail, and overturn.
Two of the injured firefighters were listed in stable condition while six were rushed to trauma centers, Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennessy said.
“We’ll be here for our firefighters, and we ask that you pray for our firefighters and their families,” Fennessy added in a press conference.
“All the families have been notified, and this is the beginning of a long road for many of those firefighters and our fire department.”
