Indiana deputy not expected to survive on-duty shooting

A Newton County, Indiana Sheriff’s deputy is not expected to survive injuries he sustained while responding to a hostage situation earlier this month.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office announced the grim news on Tuesday saying that despite ongoing efforts to save his life, Corporal Brandon Schreiber will not survive.

The deputy was shot on September 1 while assisting deputies from the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office in a hostage situation involving an armed suspect.

    Roselius fired at deputies, striking Schreiber before other deputies shot him dead.

    “Corporal Schreiber is an organ donor. His sacrifice will present the opportunity for him to help many other people,” the NCSO statement added.
