Kamala Harris trails in recent NYT poll ahead of Trump debate

Washington DC news, Washington news.

Vice President Kamala Harris was ahead of former President Donald Trump in a majority of national polls days before Tuesday’s high-stakes debate.

Harris was 5 points ahead of Trump in a Big Village poll conducted between September 6 and 8 and 4 points in the lead in a recent survey by Emerson College and Outward.

Other polls conducted by Morning Consult, YouGov, and The Economist also confirmed the Democrat’s 2-3 points lead over her Republican rival.

But a major New York Times and Siena College poll conducted between 3 and 6 seemed to give Trump a one-point lead among likely voters.

It was the first time Harris trailed a poll since she accepted her party’s nomination with her polling average lead declining to 2.8 from 3.6 points in the last two weeks.

“The honeymoon is officially over,” Trump spokesperson Jason Miller commented on the NYT poll.

Pollster Adam Carlson said on X that it was too early to tell if Harris’ lead is nearing an end.

“As good as NYT/Siena is, it’s just one poll so we should await further high-quality polling before getting carried away with narratives of momentum shifts,” he said.
