Dallas police officer killed, 2 other wounded in shootout with gunman

A Dallas Police officer was fatally shot and two others were wounded late Thursday during a shootout with an armed suspect.

Police were first alerted to “an officer in distress” in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive at around 10:10 p.m.

When responding officers reached the scene, they exchanged gunfire with a suspect who then took off to Lewisville where another shootout occurred.

  • “The preliminary investigation determined the suspect got out of the vehicle with a long gun and was shot by Dallas Police officers and he died at the scene,” the department said in a statement.

    “The investigation is ongoing. Flags at all city facilities will be flown at half-staff.”

    The officer who was first shot was reportedly fired at while in his marked police car.

    It remains unclear whether he was the officer who later died of his injuries.
