The Florida man believed to have killed a Rice University student before taking his own life this week has left a note explaining his motive, authorities said.
Andrea Rodriguez-Avila, 21, was found dead in her dorm room at around 4:30 p.m. after a concerned relative asked for a welfare check on her.
Avila’s body was found next to that of a 22-year-old Florida man believed to be the perpetrator of the murder-suicide.
Rice University Police Chief Clemete Rodriguez revealed the man left behind a note detailing his troubled relationship with the victim.
“In general terms, it was a lot about their relationship and obviously, they were having a troubled relationship at this time,” Rodriguez added.
The tragedy occurred on the first day of the fall semester at Rice University where Avila was a junior majoring in political science.
