A Tennessee woman and her boyfriend are behind bars after they allegedly beat a niece to death while babysitting her.
Kiya Moore, 21, who was trusted to care for her 1-year-old niece Kali Moore for two days at a Midtown home is now charged with first-degree murder in connection to her Saturday death.
Moore and 34-year-old Dejon Smith blamed each other after Kali was rushed to the hospital unresponsive with fatal wounds at around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Doctors at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital determined the infant had multiple skull and neck fractures, blood in her lungs, and a damaged kidney consistent with abdominal trauma.
“[Kali’s] mother was the one who really took it hard,” a family member said. “She couldn’t take it, so her mom took her home.”
“We’ve never had to deal with a situation like this, so we really don’t know how.”
