A 74-year-old man convicted of killing his son’s neighbor over dog poop a decade ago burst at his victim’s widow in a Florida courtroom Thursday, just before he was sentenced to life in prison.
In June 2015, Omar Rodriguez accosted his son’s 52-year-old neighbor Jose Rey, and his wife Lisette as they walked their dog in the neighborhood.
Believing Rey was allowing his dog to defecate in his son’s yard, Rodriguez started an argument with the couple before he shot Rey three times in front of his wife.
The man died a week later at the hospital. Rodriguez told detectives he acted in self-defense when he shot the unarmed victim.
Lisette Rey made remarks in open court before Rodriguez’s sentencing on Thursday, to which he responded with a stream of obscenities.
“I beg Your Honor, the harshest sentence imposed to the coward, the murderer,” the widow said.
“The pathetic coward was your husband. B---! That’s why I killed him. He cried like a baby!” Rodriguez replied as officers escorted him out of court.
