A 3-year-old boy fell eight stories to his death at an Independence high-rise, authorities said Monday.
The incident occurred at around 10:05 a.m. at an apartment building on Jennings Road, Battalion Chief Eric Michel said.
Firefighters rushed to the scene where the toddler layed suffering multiple serious wounds and transported him to a hospital.
Police later announced in an update that the child succumbed to his injuries.
A resident of the building said “everyone” had their windows open this summer because the central air conditioning had not been working.
“The building is technically supposed to have a central AC unit run off of a chiller, that chiller is not working,” the resident explained.
“They really haven’t had anyone up there to fix it, as much as they’d like to claim that they have.”
