The 20-year-old Pennsylvania man accused of trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Saturday had messaged his boss asking for the day off, reports said.
Thomas Crooks told his boss he had “something to do” before heading to Trump’s campaign rally in Butler.
Crooks, who was shot in the head and killed by Secret Service agents after the botched assassination attempt, reportedly told coworkers he would go back to work on Sunday.
The shooter went to the rally with a bulletproof vest, three fully loaded magazines of 100 rounds of ammunition, and two remote-controlled explosive devices.
He managed to get through the screening area and climb the air conditioning system to a roof, about 150 yards from Trump’s stage.
Crooks fired an AR-15 grazing Trump, killing a bystander and critically wounding two others.
