Authorities in Birmingham said a man, a woman, and a young child were found shot to death inside a vehicle that crashed near a local park Saturday afternoon.
The victims’ sedan jumped a curb and landed in front of a house in the 1700 block of Indian Summer Drive after a barrage of shots at around 5:30 p.m.
Police said the car was riddled with bullet holes with all three occupants deceased inside it.
The victims were preliminarily identified as a mother, her son, and her boyfriend.
“We believe some sort of interaction took place between the occupants of the victims’ vehicle and the suspects,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said.
The suspect(s) fled the scene in another vehicle after the deadly shooting.
“Anytime we have a homicide, it affects us,” the officer added.
“But when you have a child, it affects you differently,”
“In this case, we have a small, school-aged child that got caught up in the violence that’s taking place in our city,”
“We have to ask the question, ‘When is enough going to be enough?”
