Trump posts 1st statement since assassination attempt: ‘GOD BLESS AMERICA!’

After surviving a terrifying assassination attempt, former President Donald Trump posted his first statement on Truth Social Saturday evening.

The Republican presidential candidate thanked the Secret Service and police for their quick response during the chaotic event that occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday as Trump addressed his supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania.

He also expressed his condolences to the “family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”

Trump focused on the experience of feeling the bullet piercing “the upper part of my right ear” and when he realized “that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

    The former president ended his post with “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

    In an update, the FBI identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks and confirmed that one spectator had been killed and two others critically injured.

    A motive for the most serious assassination attempt on an American presidential candidate in more than four decades remains unknown.
