Amtrak train fatally hits 2 men in separate crashes within 5 hours

Authorities are investigating two fatal crashes involving a single Amtrak train that occurred within five hours Thursday.

The Amtrak train No. 79 was reportedly traveling from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina when it hit and killed two men in two separate incidents.

Burlington Police identified the first victim as 47-year-old Daniel Cameron Wagoner.

    The second victim was 43-year-old Jerome Lydell Nelson, Charlotte Police said.

    He was reportedly sitting on the westernmost tracks in east Charlotte when the train struck him at around 1 a.m. Friday.

    Amtrak officials said the incident caused “significant” delays adding that none of the train’s staffers or 106 passengers was hurt.
