Missouri City news, Texas news.

A 16-year-old Texas boy was killed on his birthday along with his mother when they crashed into a patrol vehicle of a Missouri City Police officer responding to an in-progress robbery report.

The crash occurred Thursday at around 8:45 p.m. on Cartwright Road near Texas Parkway, authorities said.

Angela Stewart, 53, was in a car driven by her 16-year-old son Mason when they crashed into the officer’s vehicle.

The mother and son were killed in the crash. The officer and a man he had in the backseat of the cruiser were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“I was just tracking my son’s phone. I checked to see why they were gone so long,” the father said.

“He died on his birthday, man,” he said referring to his teen son, Mason.

Police are now investigating the crash and whether the department policies were unfollowed since the officer shouldn’t be responding to an incident while having someone in their patrol car.

“At this time, we are unsure why that person was in the police vehicle, how he got in there. It will be part of the investigation moving forward,” MCPD Chief Brandon Harris said.
