Memphis news, Tennessee news.

An enraged Memphis mother is asking for an explanation into how her hospitalized son was so brutally beaten by another patient that he is currently clinging to life in critical condition.

Mansour El-Amin was brought to Delta Specialty Hospital which treats patients with mental health and addiction issues and had just called his mother to tell her he was improving.

“He called me from Delta Medical Health Mental Health Unit. He says, ‘Mom, I’m so proud of myself. I look so much better. My skin color is coming back, and I have a little belly’,” the mother recalled.

Hours later, hospital staff called to inform her that her son had been attacked by a fellow patient.

The victim suffered extensive brain bleeding and several fractures in his face. He is breathing through a tube and is listed in critical but stable condition.

“The stability comes from the sedation. He is notreally doing anything on his own. He’s not even breathing on his own,” the distraught mother said.

“He was unrecognizable. What happened? Where do you do this at? In a hospital, you’re beat up like this?”
