Soldier, 23, dies in training accident at US Army base in Colorado

A 23-year-old soldier died in a training accident at Fort Carson, Colorado this week, officials said.

Lt. Zachary Galli was killed in a non-combat-related accident at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Carson officials said.

Galli was an explosive ordnance disposal officer who had received numerous awards during his two years of service including an Army Service Ribbon and a Nation Defense Service Medal.

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of 1st Lt. Zachary Galli,” Col. Brennan Fitzgerald said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the Galli family, the 749th EOD Co., and the greater EOD community.”

The accident is under investigation and no further details regarding Galli’s death were made available.
