Georgia girl, 15, dies from fatal cardiac arrest on campus; family suspects drug-overdose

The family of a 15-year-old girl who died Monday after going into a cardiac arrest on campus is suspecting drug involvement in her sudden death.

The 10th-grade student identified only as Mia died after suffering the medical emergency at Dunwoody High School.

Dunwoody Principal Tom Bass announced the tragic death to parents in a letter adding that the school was placed on lockdown during the incident to limit movement.

The sister of the deceased student revealed that she had overdosed on a fentanyl-laced pill after being given the pill at school.

  • “We are trying to catch the person who sold her the drugs,” she said asking anyone with information to contact the police.

    Long Tran, a state representative for Dunwoody and father to a 10th-grade student at the high school shared his concerns.

    “It doesn’t surprise me that teens would be taking drugs on campus, especially as we get closer to finals week,” he said.

    “The pressure is going to be there, and for some students, they’re looking for an edge.”
