Plane crashes into Augusta neighborhood; Pilot killed

A single-engine plane crashed into a neighborhood in Augusta early Thursday killing the pilot, authorities said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that the Beechcraft 36 jet that had a sole occupant crashed at around 7:10 a.m.

The doomed aircraft took off from Daniel Field and was on its way back to the airfield when it collided with a tree.

    Others saw the blaze and smoke and thought the incident was a house fire.

    The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating the crash.

    Coroner Mark Bowen said that the deceased pilot’s identity won’t be immediately released pending next of kin’s notification.
