West Valley City news, Utah news.

A Utah man is behind bars after he allegedly beat his father multiple times with a hatchet killing him on Friday, West Valley City Police said.

Jeremy Pulver claimed his father “wanted to die due to his elderly condition” after fatally beating him in his bedroom and filling his mouth with baking soda to ensure the victim was dead.

Investigators reported Jeremy “worked up the confidence to kill” before letting himself into John Pulver’s bedroom where he initially tried to suffocate him.

“Jeremy grabbed his hatchet he bought from Lowes and struck (his father) on the head four to six times until (he) stopped fighting,” police said.

“Jeremy admitted that following this, he put sodium bicarbonate, which Jeremy described as baking soda into (his father’s) mouth as he learned it was a good method to ensure someone was dead.”

Pulver who fled the scene was arrested shortly later. He was booked on a count of murder in the first degree.
