An Oklahoma man was arrested for murdering his nine-month-old son months after he allegedly beat up his girlfriend while she was pregnant.
Hunter Smiley, 25, stands accused of killing his son Briggs who was found unresponsive with an internal bleeding of the brain and hemorrhaging behind the eyes on April 10.
Smiley was arrested at the scene by responding Newcastle Police officers. A gun was found in his possession.
The baby’s mother had a “no contact” protective order against Smiley after he beat her up with pieces of a broken door when she was pregnant.
The woman lifted the order to allow Smiley to “be involved in the birth of his child.”
“It is tragic when a life is taken so early,” said District Attorney Greg Mashburn.
“We will prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law to be the voice of this victim who is unable to speak for himself.”
