Four Newberry High School students were killed in a crash following a high-speed chase with authorities last weekend.

The teenagers, aged between 14 and 16, were trying to flee a traffic stop in a stolen Honda CRV Saturday when they crashed into a concrete utility pole.”

It took responding agents around 90 minutes to extricate the teens. Two were declared dead at the scene while two others died Tuesday.

“It is with great sadness that I share the two Newberry High School students who were in the serious car accident this past weekend have now passed away from their injuries,” Principal James Sheppard said.

The crash ended a perilous chase that involved Bradford County deputies, the Florida Highway Patrol, and a state trooper across county lines.

The trooper “made intentional contact with the Honda causing it to decelerate,” the FHP said in a statement.

“The Trooper used the break in speed to perform a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) on the fleeing Honda to stop the threat created by the fleeing suspect.”

“The Honda subsequently rolled over before making contact with a cement pole.”
