An Ada County sheriff’s deputy was gunned down while approaching a vehicle during a routine traffic stop, Idaho authorities said.
Deputy Tobin Bolter, 27, was shot to the neck and killed while approaching the driver’s window early Sunday.
Sheriff Matt Clifford said that video from the crime scene showed the deputy “never even made it to the window.”
Dennis Mulqueen, 65, was later shot and killed by police in Boise. Authorities said he had abandoned his car and was “uncooperative” as officers “attempted to take him safely and peacefully into custody.”
Mulqueen fired at officers who then returned fire, fatally hitting him. The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the shooting.
