Sports car’s driver fatally struck by train after ignoring warning signals at Missouri railroad crossing

The driver of a sports car was tragically killed in a train crash after he ignored warning signals and lights at a crossing in south Kansas City.

Officer Alayna Gonzalez said that the sole occupant of a blue Jaguar S-Type sports sedan went around a rail crossing gate arm on Holmes Road north of East 134th Street ignoring flashing lights and a bell.

The car was attempting to cross the tracks when it was struck by an oncoming Union Pacific freight train at around 8 a.m. Monday.

  • Gonzalez said that the car’s driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene.

    The train’s operator and engineer were not harmed in the collision.

    Kansas City Police is investigating the deadly crash.
