A 13-year-old South Carolina boy was accidentally gunned down by his best friend during a duck hunting trip on Sunday.
The two 13-year-olds were duck hunting in Santee, Orangeburg County when the deadly accident took place.
“This is an ongoing investigation, and we will update as we’re able. Our thoughts are with the boy’s family and loved ones,” the SC Department of Natural Resources said.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as Cameron Connor. His family confirmed his death revealing that he was an eighth grader at Dorchester Academy.
Cameron’s grieving mom said he played for the school’s football and baseball teams but loved hunting and fishing more than anything else.
“He would rather fish than sleep. He made a huge impact at his school as well as in our community,” she said.
“He had the ability to make anyone laugh with his amazing fishing and hunting stories that he loved to share.”
