Authorities in Los Angeles are seeking people’s help in identifying a suspect after a shooting left two people dead and eight wounded on New Year’s Day.
Officers were at the scene at the 2300 block of Porter Street in downtown Los Angeles at around 1 a.m. when they found multiple victims on the street and sidewalks.
A man and a woman died of gunshot wounds at the scene. Eight others were hospitalized.
“At this time, we have two confirmed fatalities. The victims were described as a male and a female who were in their 20s,” LA Police Capt. Ryan Whiteman said.
A witness who arrived during the shooting to pick up some passengers at the party believes he saw the shooters.
“I saw a girl that got hit, and then I saw the dead girl – right here, in front of my car. There’s a gut 20 feet to my left side and there’s an SUV on the right side.”
“I believe they were shooting at each other. Now, when I ducked, kind of instantly, I heard a lot more gunfire. I don’t know where that other gunfire came from.”
Anyone with information about the shooter(s) is asked to contact the LAPD’s Detective Howarth at (213) 996-4143 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
