Clarksville news, Tennessee news.

At least six people were confirmed dead and 20 others wounded in a tornado that tore through central Tennessee Saturday afternoon.

The child and two other victims were killed in Montgomery County, near the Kentucky state line in northern Nashville, while 23 people were hospitalized there in connection to the severe weather.

“This is devastating news and our hearts are broken for the families of those who lost loved ones. The city stands ready to help them in their time of grief,” Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts said.

The tornado left extensive devastation including destroyed homes and damaged vehicles. A shelter was set up at a local high school as the search for victims continued.

“If you need help, call 911 and help will be on the way immediately. But if you can, please stay home. Do not get out on the roads. Our first responders need time and space,” Pitts said.
