UM Duluth football player dies while working out at 22: ‘A UMD Bulldog through and through’

Senior defensive end for the University of Minnesota Duluth Reed Ryan passed away unexpectedly Tuesday at the age of 22.

According to an obituary, Ryan suffered a cardiac arrest while working out in the weight room with his team on November 21.

The player received life-saving measures at the scene and was transported to St. Mary’s-Duluth. He died a week later at Essentia Health in Duluth.

    “We were fortunate to have Reed on our team, and he made our program, our department, and our community a better place in a short period of time.”
