The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is investigating the murder of an inmate at the hands of two other prisoners at a maximum-security jail in Tehachapi.
David Moreno, 38, died on his way to hospital Wednesday after he was attacked by two fellow inmates at the California Correctional Institution.
Officials said that chemical agents were used to break up the inmates’ fight and three handmade weapons were recovered from the scene.
Carlos Cervantes, a 39-year-old inmate serving a sentence of life for murder, and 41-year-old Armando Taylor, a 41-year-old murder convict with previous in-prison assault offenses, were accused of Moreno’s murder.
Moreno was also serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for an attempted murder conviction.
