An Alabama couple was arrested Sunday and charged with abuse of a corpse after their teen son’s remains were found in a broken freezer.
The badly decomposed body of Logan Halstead was discovered by new residents of his parents’ former house in Headland.
Police said the remains were kept in a non-working freezer. It is unclear how Logan, who suffered medical issues including spinal bifida, died.
The victims’ parents, Michael Shane Halstead and Karen Halstead moved out of the Headland home in September.
Halstead initially told detectives that he suffered a manic episode and couldn’t remember how his deceased son got into the broken freezer.
He later confessed to placing the body in the freezer and was subsequently arrested.
During a Monday hearing, the parents denied any involvement in the case. Their other two children were placed in the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
