A Kentucky man was found dead after he fatally stabbed himself while hunting over the weekend.
37-year-old Jared Hausfeld stabbed his leg with a large hunting knife while aiming at a deer he initially thought was dead.
The animal made a sudden move surprising Hausfeld who inadvertently injured himself.
The hunter died before he could receive medical attention. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife officials warned people of such incidents.
“Most people stop their hunting when hunting season is done and they don’t even worry about it until next season,” Officer James Brace said.
Brace noted that hunters should let someone know where they would be hunting and for how long.
“Hunting is fun, but let’s be safe about it. You can never be too safe.”
